S5, E59 The COVID-19 Crisis and the Importance of Forward Planning with FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh

When the COVID-19 crisis began in early 2020, the Department and its members were challenged in ways like never before. The pandemic’s arrival proved to be both deadly and difficult to combat. One of the core duties of the Department’s First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh is to help meet the operational needs and longterm strategic goals of the FDNY’s core services. Since March, her office has had to deal with an onslaught of new challenges, with solutions harder than ever to come by. As the COVID-19 emergency lingers and a serious fiscal crisis brews, Commissioner Kavanagh provides insights into the Department’s forward planning and how the FDNY’s lifesaving mission remains paramount. Battalion Chief Brian Mulry hosts.
