FDNY members who earn the Deputy Chief Orio Palmer Fitness Award, the Department’s highest honor awarded by the FDNY Health and Fitness Unit, join an elite list of personnel who pass a grueling test of physical endurance and strength. The award was renamed after Deputy Chief Orio Palmer who made the Supreme Sacrifice, along with 342 other FDNY members, on the morning of September 11, 2001. Chief Palmer remains an inspiration to all, earning the award at every rank in his career—a lifetime achievement which others seek to emulate. Directed by Kristin Eng.

Legacy of Bravery
A Personal Journey into the Fire Service
Josephine Smith often told her father, Kevin Smith, that she would one day fight fires alongside him. But, Smith lost her dad before she could do that. On September 11, 2001, Kevin Smith was stationed at Hazmat Co. 1 in Manhattan and rushed with his unit to the World Trade Center, where he and 342 of his brothers were killed. Devastated, yet determined to fulfill her lifelong dream, Josephine joined the ranks of the FDNY in 2014 as the first female legacy in the Department’s history. In addition, each day that she puts on her uniform, she helps inspire young women interested in becoming Firefighters to follow their dreams. Directed by Kristin Eng.

A Second Chance for One New Yorker
Our second FDNY Pro Film shines a light on the critical links in the chain of survival that gave one New Yorker a second chance at life after experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. On May 5, 2016, Ashley Newman was rehearsing for an upcoming performance with her dance company when she collapsed without warning. With Ms. Newman having no pulse and not breathing, her colleagues immediately called 911 for help. When victims suffer from cardiac arrest, a precious few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. The quick action of Ms. Newman's friends and coworkers to immediately call 911, along with expert response from the FDNY, was this difference. Directed by Kristin Eng.

My Father’s House
A Daughter's Story. A Department's Tradition. A Chance Meeting.
FDNY Pro Films proudly presents our first feature on one of the many stories of the lasting impact of the 23rd Street Fire, the deadliest day for the Department prior to September 11, 2001. On October 17, 1966, 12 of New York’s Bravest died when the floor they were standing on collapsed into the basement of the Wonder Drugstore while they were operating at 6 East 23rd Street. This film tells the story of Lieutenant Joseph Priore’s daughter Christine who was only 6 months old at the time of his death and how a chance encounter later in life brought her to her father’s firehouse in Manhattan.The film is narrated by news anchor and longtime friend to the FDNY and FDNY Foundation, Rosanna Scotto.
